A little reminder (Part 3)

The third command Paul shares with them is:
Reminder #3: To be ready for every good work
Remind them ... to be ready for every good work, (Titus 3:1, ESV)
We all recognize the importance of preparedness. Many of us have allocated finances so that we could be prepared in the case of an emergency. Some have extra blankets and flares in their vehicles right now in case their vehicle becomes stranded on a cold winter night. My wife and I recently went over an escape route with our children in case of a fire.
So we may (or may not) be experts in the area of readiness when it comes to life's curveballs, but are we as prepared when it comes to serving God? We should be. That's what Paul gets at here in his letter to Titus. He is essentially telling Titus to plan ahead for and expect the opportunity to serve God
While I don't know if we'll have to use that emergency fire escape plan (I sure hope not), I do know that I will have to execute my "good works plan." That's because God made me a Christian for this purpose. All the work he did in creating me to be a new person was with good works in mind.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10, ESV)
If I am to be ready to jump into good works, I need to be properly equipped. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 ties this concept together with God's Word. The Bible is God's means of getting us ready for the game. The sprinter has the race track and the slugger, his batting cage. So also we have God's Word to prepare us for what we will face.
Are you ready?
